Parents Plead Guilty in 8-Year-Old Son’s Death
The parents of an 8-year-old Ohio boy, who died in 2008 of a type of treatable cancer called Hodgkin’s lymphoma, have pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter. Monica Hussing and William Robinson Sr. face up to 8 years in prison each.
Can you imagine? Your child dying and then you are charged in the death. I can’t – but then again, I would do everything in my power to keep my child safe and healthy. These parents did not.
Before his death, this 8-year-old boy had a recurring lump on his neck. Although it did not seem to bother him, he reportedly asked his parents to go to the doctor regarding the condition. They were also visited by a case worker during the prior year regarding his health care and were told they should take him for a medical follow-up due to the swollen neck.
The sad truth in this case is that Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, the most common cancer in children, is very treatable. According to the American Cancer Society, there is a more than 90% survival rate when this form of cancer is treated. So, why didn’t these parents take him to the doctor? They claim financial hardship. Yet, only a few weeks before his death the parents paid $87 to have their pit bull treated for fleas. That does NOT sound like “financial hardship” to me. It sounds like child endangerment.
What are your thoughts? Should Monica Hussing and William Robinson Sr. go to jail for their son’s death?
