Scared to Death for 60 Seconds
Last weekend I had the scare every mom fears. I lost my son. It was only for about one minute, but believe me, that was the longest 60 seconds of my life. It happened so fast, but didn’t take much to rattle me to the core.
My husband and I decided to take our kids to IKEA for Christmas shopping, which looking back, I can say probably wasn’t the best idea. Yes, the store was overly crowded, and my three-year old son is extremely active (that’s an understatement), but in an instant, he managed to slip into the crowd and away from me.
Like any concerned parent, I panicked for those few moments. As I dashed through the crowd with my 6 month old baby in tow, I felt the fear of losing my child. I tried looking around, not only for him, but taking into account my surroundings. I was extremely lucky, and found my son, who was also running through the crowd the opposite way, looking for daddy. Yet, many parents have these exact same terrifying moments and aren’t as lucky when those moments turn into a tragic nightmare.
John Walsh, the host of America’s Most Wanted, helped create the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, after struggling with the pain of losing his own child from an abduction. America’s Most Wanted is in its 25th season now and you can watch new shows on Lifetime each Friday at 9pm/8c.
