Should Mother’s Day Be A Three Day Weekend?
The “Give Mom a Monday” campaign is proposing that the Monday after Mother’s Day be observed as a new national holiday-making it a three day weekend. The Presidents get a day, why not moms?
Here’s the petition. At first I thought what a crazy idea, but then as I let it soak in, it actually makes sense. I mean, I don’t know about you, but in my house Mother’s Day is not really about me. In our house it is about family, it’s a time to get together. I spend it with my mom, my mother in law, my kids, my husband, and I love it, but it’s not really a break. So what if Sunday was family day and then Monday was “you” day? While my family will always rank first, wouldn’t it be nice to have both and not feel guilty about it?
I would love to have a day off from EVERYTHING. No dishes, no laundry, no driving, no talking back, no butt wiping, no bills, no picking up toys, no picking up food, no making food, no breaking up a fight, no alarm clock, no no’s!
Isn’t that what moms want- a real day off? A recent survey of 19,000 moms by Plum District found that one out of three moms secretly want the day to themselves. Eight out of 10 would choose sleeping in versus a sunrise breakfast. 75% claim they would prefer a handmade card over a necklace from Tiffany & Co. 52% would use an hour to themselves for a massage while the other would go on a bike ride.
What do you want? What do you think of a 3 day weekend?
