The VBAC Baby Doll. Yes, You Read That Right.
I'd like to begin this post by saying that I'm pretty open minded. Very little in life surprises me.
Until it does.
On my list of things that surprised me this week? A baby doll.
I'm sure you're going - really, Erika? A baby doll?
Of course, I'm talking about this baby doll.
That, my friends, is the special VBAC baby doll from Mamamor.
It seems that our market is so saturated with "traditional" baby dolls that the folks at Mamamor felt the need to take the educational dolls (they also offer babywearing and breastfeeding dolls, which I get at least a little bit more than this one) to the next level.
Or two levels really. I mean, hey - this doll gives you a (hand stitched) choice of, um, delivery. Yes, both openings really work - and seal shut with a strip of velcro.
If only my recovery had been as easy as velcro.
I have only given birth once (the good old fashioned way - I'm sure you're wondering) but even if I found myself in the position of having to contemplate a VBAC delivery I don't think it'd be something I'd need to discuss with my 4 year old. Much less give her a doll to show her exactly how this baby was going to get out of mommy's tummy.
Can you imagine her wanting to bring this baby doll to share day at school?
I'd probably be arrested, or at least make the local news. I'd certainly be blacklisted from mommy groups county-wide. Except for the super crunchy ones I'm sure (but I doubt there are many of those in the OC).
So, sorry friends. This VBAC Baby Doll will not find a new home in our house. Maybe it's totally wrong of me, but I actually feel more comfortable having Barbie dolls in our house - even though I'm sure Barbie is setting up my daughter for a lifetime of body image issues.
But hey. At least Barbie isn't sharing the details of her birth plan with my daughter. Really, that's all I can ask.
