Woman Arrested For Putting 5-Year-Old Daughter In Tanning Booth
We’ve all broken the parenting rules every now and then – you know, brushing off a chicken nugget that fell on the floor, forgetting to brush your kid’s teeth before bed, giving a screaming toddler a cookie to buy yourself five minutes of peace and quiet. But this REALLY takes the cake.
A 44-year-old Patricia Krentcil (aka “the tanning mom") was arrested and charged with child endangerment after her 5-year-old daughter was spotted at school with a sunburn. The little girl allegedly told classmates she "went tanning with Mommy." And children under the age of 14 are prohibited from tanning in New Jersey. But Krentcil insists that her daughter WASN’T in the tanning booth:
"It's like taking your daughter to go food shopping," she told a news source after being released on $25,000 bail. "There's tons of moms that bring their children in."
"I tan, she doesn't tan," she continued. "I'm in the booth, she's in the room. That's all there is to it."
Krentcil claims her daughter received her sunburn from playing outside (and obviously without sunscreen). She's been released on $25,000 bail.
Now – it’s not right to get all “judgey” – but it’s hard not to jump to conclusions when you look at this woman’s unnaturally brown (some have compared her to beef jerky) skin. And there’s now much speculation that she’s “tanorexic”. So she’s clearly not your average Joe, meaning normal.
Watch the below video of Krentcil telling her side of the story on the “Today Show”.
What do you think? Do you think the school did the right thing by getting Child Services involved? Or do you think they made assumptions because of the way Krentcil looks?
