The Rocky Road to My Favorite Day of The Year
It took me a long time to get pregnant. Six and a half years to be exact. I don't know if you know this, but it's very difficult to reproduce these days. The only people who can get pregnant the old fashioned way are high school students. For the rest of us there are tests and procedures. NASA has to get involved. It's complicated.
I had my twins through in vitro. For months, I spent every morning - Saturdays, Sundays, Christmas - in a waiting room with 50 other childless women. Good times.
Blood tests, hormone injections, ultrasounds, depression, support groups, counseling. For me, the road to motherhood was a rocky one.
Mother's Day is a holiday I thought I would never be included in. And after my mom passed away, never thought I'd celebrate again. Then I had my son and daughter. And now my foster son. For me, Mother's Day is the happiest day of the year.
In honor of my favorite day, I've put together a playlist for all of us doing the hardest and best job in the world. Crank them up, sing along, shake your groove thang, and celebrate life.
