Would You Let Starbucks Customers Name Your Unborn Child?
Coco, Apple, Blue Ivy, North West – we know those are some of the unique names celebrities have chosen for their little ones lately. But would you trust Starbucks customers to choose the name of your child? I can just imagine… Macchiato, Hazelnut, or Pike? One coffee-loving couple from Connecticut did just that when they asked customers to vote on baby names via the coffee-cup-ballot-box.
Choosing a baby’s name is one of the most important decisions you can make and I don’t think I would let it go to chance with employees at any coffee shop (even though I am an avid coffee drinker!). Sure, parents have a right to name their kid anything they want, but let’s not be too narcissistic here, we need to remember that child will have to live with that name forever – and childhood bullying is not a thing of the distant past. Kids are cruel and anything that makes someone different can be a source of ridicule.
I’m not saying you can’t find something unique and meaningful, I’m just asking parents to be a tad responsible and understand the depth of their decision. Is that really too much to ask?
For the Starbucks-kid, all seems to have worked out. Customers gave a variety of different names, but one really stuck out to the couple: Logan. Now that isn’t too bizarre, is it?
What do you think? Is naming a baby really that serious or should we all just leave it to chance?
