Change The Way You THINK PINK!
These days, we all know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink pops up everywhere and for good reason. However, are we becoming numb to the pink ribbon? Does it get our attention anymore? I'm pretty sure the answer is not as much as it used to. Unless, we ourselves or someone close to us is affected by Breast Cancer, October can come and go and we continue to go on with our lives.
For many years, every October I would support the cause financially and talk the talk, but I admit this was pretty much just going through the motions. I didn't change my habits, seriously assess my own breast cancer risk, or actively manage it.
However, that changed dramatically a couple of years ago. It was not because of ribbons, pretty pink products or fun pink parties, but because a close friend was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. This changed my perspective forever. Watching someone you love battle with the disease is like watching war. It's painful for everyone involved and there are many casualties and scars that can be left from the fight.
Thank God, my dear friend was victorious in her battle with Breast Cancer! We celebrate this and are especially reminded of it each October. From many women's battles with Breast Cancer come inspirational stories and the knowledge that there is strength within us that we didn't know existed. There are so many stories of courage, bravery and love, which have been born from this insidious disease. These I believe, more than any pink ribbon, capture our attention and the attention of the young women in our lives who need to be educated and made aware.
So this month, in addition to donning the pink ribbon, buying the pink products to support wonderful organizations, please tune into the stories. Read them online, learn about them in your community and watch them this month as part of Lifetime television's incredible movie event FIVE.

On Monday, October 10, host the women in your life for a viewing party that will change the way they THINK PINK!
