Just for Me
Booked at the Beach! My "Hope to Read" List
Being booked at the beach is something I look forward to. Settling under a beach umbrella with a gentle breeze, the sound of the ocean, and a nice stack of books to pass the afternoon is what I usually do on my vacation.
Only this year, I have been booked with deadlines, research and mommy to-do lists. Instead of carrying a beach bag with that hard cover read to be devoured, I have a notepad with pages that need to be filled and items to check off.
My summer beach must read list is turning more into a summer beach hope to read list. And since I have managed to read excerpts from all three of my picks, I am sure that they will be good ones from start to finish.
Starting with Jaycee Dugard's new book A Stolen Life: A Memoir. The book tells of Jaycee Dugard’s kidnapping at the age of 11. She was kept in captivity for 18 years where she was repeatedly raped, handcuffed, and gave birth to two girls. I am inspired by how she managed to survive.
As this book is sure to be heart wrenching, my next pick is definitely on the funny but still inspiring side. It’s Saturday Night Live Alum and “I can see Russia from my house” satirist Tina Fey’s new book Bossypants. The excerpts I have read have been laugh out loud funny, poignant and true. I can’t wait to read more about Tina’s life as a working mom.
My third book is inspiring as well but falls into the self-help category. It’s a book that aims to motivate readers to not let life’s obstacles stand in their way. Considering how booked I am right now this seems like a good read to keep me on track. It’s from Transformers star Tyrese Gibson and is called How to Get Out of Your Own Way.
