Does it Pay to be Thin? The Skinny on Getting a Fat Paycheck
Does it pay to be thin? If you are a woman, apparently the answer is yes. A new report has been published in The Wall Street Journal which shows that skinny women have bigger paychecks than average or overweight women. I know…I too am questioning if there is any justice left in the world.
And speaking of justice, you know that the good old double standard does exist when it comes to men. The big money is reserved for them. Yes, bigger men actually earn more than thin men. And both big and skinny men generally earn more than women.
The expression many a man has heard from women “Do I look fat in this?” is taking on new meaning. Our waist size now has a correlation to our wallet size. And we are not talking about a little money. Thinner women earn approximately $15,000 more annually than their average or overweight counterparts.
Don’t get me wrong, we all do need to be more mindful of our weight. But the weightier issue should be our health and not our paycheck. We should not be worrying that our wallet size will shrink if our waist size doesn’t.
But sometimes knowing is half the battle. We do know that our weight plays a tremendous role in our health physically, mentally and now financially. So if you want to climb the corporate ladder bring your gym shoes and do 3 reps on that ladder every other day.
