Exercise Your Options
As we move along on this journey to weight loss and health, one thing is certain: We must exercise. I have found that in order to keep seeing the numbers go lower on the scale, I need to work out A LOT. As in, every day. I don't know if it's my lovely genes or my even lovelier thyroid problems, but this is the way it is.
Unlike many people, I don't hate to exercise. However, there are certain exercises I do hate to do. Anything mundane or boring or high impact, I've noticed I just don't stick with it. I also don't have fitness equipment at home (save for a yoga mat), don't have a gym membership and don't have any video game fitness duds either. All of the above I'd love to try out some day, but for now it's me, my DVD player and a plethora of ideas from the web.
Some of my favorite make-you-sweat-till-you-pass-out exercises are kick boxing type routines and anything that combines strength training/cardio/ab work all into one. I also love to walk, and hope to one day be a runner once I've trained more (notice I didn't say I hate running, as badly as I wanted to, since I'm open to learning to love it!).
Even though these types of exercises are effective, they don't give me the whole package. I liken exercise to a natural anti-depressant, so I need the routine to give me more than just a good sweat. I've found that yoga and Pilates can work over my soul and my muscles, while giving me the sweat and soreness to prove it. The difference with these exercises is that I actually *like* to do them. I look forward to them. And the cute clothes don't hurt either...
What are your favorite forms of exercise? What resources do you recommend? I'll be delving deeper in to more specific exercises, videos and websites that I use to keep on the ball with my fitness routine, but for now I'd love to hear from you!
