Football Food Ideas. Figure Friendly Fixins
Football parties are my favorite. But it’s easy to get sacked on calories with some typical football food. And with bowl games, playoffs and the Super Bowl approaching you may need some tips that won’t throw your healthy eating off sides. You can stop the rush of pounds that can sneak in this time of year by putting out some football food options that are better for you, even healthy and most of all delicious.
Something about grilling just makes it feel like a tailgate party. No matter what the climate you can fire up the grill and make your party special. Throw corn on the cob, asparagus, and zucchini on the grill and serve with Angus burgers on whole wheat buns. Instead of offering chicken wings you can grill chicken skewers with bell peppers, tomatoes and onions. You can actually get crazy with kabobs using seafood like salmon and other lean cuts of meat and any of your favorite veggies. Grilled pineapples and peaches with honey make a great dessert option.
Another football favorite is chili. Use extra-lean ground beef or ground turkey to make this a healthier option. Load up on fiber and folic acid by adding assorted beans to the dish such as kidney and cannellini beans. Sometimes you just need a substitute and here are some good ones; whole wheat bread instead of white bread for sandwiches, light beer and reduced fat mayo.
You can still crunch and munch during the game by offering baked tortilla chips. You can enjoy dipping in a tomato based salsa filled with rich antioxidants. Put out fresh raw nuts like pecans and walnuts which are plentiful this time of year. You can even include some covered with dark chocolate.
