Juggling the Holiday Parties

I’ve been to two parties and have managed to be a good egg. So far I’ve had fun without overeating. If I plan and eat before I go to a party I don’t grab the first thing I see.

I don’t want to get too sure of myself as we head into celebrating Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanzaa And The New Year.  My downfall would be going to a party hungry without previewing how to deal with all the tempting food within easy reach.

My plan is to eat something substantial before leaving home. At the party I’ll drink some fancy sparkling water out of a wine glass with a slice of lime and munch on fruits and vegetables that are filling and nutritious.

Water is great for the skin and is filling. Drinking it in a wine glass will keep my hands busy. It will be a little tricky juggling a plate of naughty treats and the drink. That split second maneuvering might be enough time to focus on the food and allow me to think and decide if it’s worth the effort. It might be- but at least I’m not eating without thinking. I also want to balance eating wisely while not feeling deprived.

Then when I have the wine or champagne and the special goodies I’ll feel so virtuous.

I have a harder time controlling myself when the party is at our home. The leftovers speak to me- sometimes even in the middle of the night. I put some leftovers in the freezer but I also want to enjoy them the next day with my family.

I welcome suggestions for keeping the leftovers from ruining ourhealthy efforts.
