National Nutrition Month - How do you keep your family healthy?
I have a house full of boys and all of them with varying degrees of food allergies, intolerances and sensitivities. What we came to realize years ago was that their diet greatly affected their health. And not just in feeling good, but in preventing disease, too. I would let them eat unhealthy and soon after not only was the behavior terrible, tummyaches all around, but we would start to see more colds and fevers popping up. It was like the whole family suddenly could no longer fight off the every day bugs and viruses floating around in our community.
Because we have this gene pool where we're all so susceptible to getting sick when our immunity is compromised, we have had to do our own research and learn what exactly it is that lowers our immunity. In short - white sugar, white flour and processed food. Along with various other toxicities in the regular American life.
For National Nutrition Month, I'm reminded about not only eating to stay fit and in shape, but something much more deeper - whole body health. Keeping the body clear of toxic food is so important, it can't be stressed enough. And as hard as it is to cut the bad stuff out of our diet, I know it can be done. Even if it's one thing at a time, little baby steps - you can get there! Here's to health!
