National Roller Skating Month
I like working out just about as much as I like doing laundry. But some things just have to be done otherwise you are stuck with the consequences. And most likely we won’t feel too good if we are carrying extra weight or wearing yesterday’s shirt. Skating around a workout may be the thing for you if you are anything like me. I jump at the chance to do things that are fun and don’t feel like working out, like roller skating.
October is National Roller Skating Month. You can take a roll down memory lane to the days of big hair, polyester, tube socks and skating to the beat. Do you remember how much fun Roller Skating was? We had a blast growing up going to the local rink and enjoying endless hours of skating. Some things change and some things stay the same. It’s still the same great time! The hair is still big and the clothes are crazy. But the rink has changed. It has gotten more fun!
Today you can traditional skate or strap on a pair of inline skates. Now, music plays in the background but you can also enjoy video games and music videos as well. It’s time to get those skates back on for a great workout.
Roller skating is a fun way to get you and the kids moving. As we go into the cooler months this is a great indoor activity that is actually an effective low impact aerobic workout. It involves all of the bodies' muscles including the heart (which may be racing anyway if it's date night at the Roller Skating rink).
Roller skating is not just for kids anymore. My sister-in-law Tonnie has never lost her love for Roller Skating. She has stayed in great shape over the years by going skating weekly. So strap on the skates and have some wheel fun!
