A Prodding Question For Your Man
Did you know that September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month? It sometimes is these national observances that make us aware of things. Women often know of the staggering impact that breast cancer has among females affecting one in every eight. But were you aware that prostate cancer actually affects one in every six men?
I’m sure that you are aware that men sometimes forget to get to the doctor. If you ask them what time and date the game is on you will likely get a detailed answer that includes where the game is being played, stats and who’s starting. Now try asking what time and date their annual exam is. You are likely to get that puzzled deer in the headlights look. When it comes to men and their health, they need a little prodding sometimes. From us and their doctors. Although this is often what they try to avoid, it is just what they need.
That prodding we do to our men, from our husbands to our dads, to get them to the doctor? Well, it just might save their life. And those few seconds of prodding by the doctor? Well, prostate cancers that are diagnosed early are almost always curable.
Most Prostate Cancers are detected during annual exams with a rectal test or a PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood test. Men over the age of 50 should get an annual prostate exam.
