Breast Cancer Awareness
Shopping to Benefit Breast Cancer Research
When October rolls around, so many opportunities are presented to raise money for Breast Cancer research and charities.
Rather than buying "pink" items with a questionable amount donated to Breast Cancer research or charities, I always feel best donating directly to a charity, or for instance, contributing to someone participating in an event such as the Breast Cancer 3 Day for the Cure 60 mile walk. My best friend does this every year in support of her mother, a breast cancer survivor for 13 years.

Eighty-five percent of the net proceeds from the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure Walks goes to the foundation activities, building awareness and raising funds for breast cancer research and community outreach programs since 1982. Fifteen percent of the net proceeds benefit the National Philanthropic Trust (NPT). These funds will establish the NPT Breast Cancer Fund, which will provide long-term support for breast cancer initiatives including research, treatment, prevention and education.
If you are going to shop for items that donate a portion of their proceeds, be sure to pick a cause which clearly reveals how much is being donated to Breast Cancer Research or charities.
For instance, this season my favorite shopping deal that benefits Breast Cancer awareness is a special I just discovered yesterday when shopping at Ann Taylor Loft. For a $25 donation to Loft Cares, you get a special shopping coupon to get 25% off all purchases made until November 15th.
90% of my $25 donation will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Now that's shopping I can feel good about!
