A Tough Pill to Swallow

Everybody is doing it but not everybody should without birth control. It's important. Having children is a huge responsibility. Not everyone that has sex is ready for the responsibility. The government seeks to make sure to include birth control as part of every Affordable Care Act (ACA, the 2010 health reform law) . In 28 states birth control is covered. The rest of the states need to provide this coverage.

The problem is the church says NO to the law. They are in fact above the law. Men and women of the Lord do not want their “employees” to have this ability. It is against their policy. I have to say whether it is against your policy or not, your employees are having Sex. If your “employees” are not covered, then their families are also not covered. The "No" also covers women who work for religious charities ,schools and hospitals.

The idea that pointing people in the right direction and offering alternative coverage options at their own expense is ridiculous. Let's look at the math. It is less expensive to the insurance industry to provide birth control than to pay to deliver babies. It is cheaper for the “employees” of the church to buy birth control then to purchase a whole new healthcare package to obtain a right that should be theirs.

Then we see our wonderful President backs down to the church and concede by allowing the church and religious organizations to opt out of the requirement, if they choose. Then their insurance company must provide birth control for free in a separate arrangement with workers who want it. That leave myself and others who do not work for the Church to pay for the coverage of their employees. I would rather not do I get the right to vote "No".

It is a fact that the majority of women use birth control at one time or another. Whether it be to prevent pregnancy or out of necessity for health reasons. It is also a known fact that there are many unplanned pregnancies. Who pays for these unplanned pregnancies? We all do.

I wonder if men got pregnant, the issue over covering birth control would arise. These religious organizations need to understand if they operate a business in the United States, then they need to offer coverage to their employees regardless of their beliefs. It is not the insurance company's job to pay for their employees coverage. It is their job.

Question for a second the amount of money that the church makes. Ask to see their books that contain billions in assets. They are indeed wealthier than the average American who will be stuck paying for their employees to receive birth control if they so choose. The use of birth control is a moral one that the church does not sanction so if their employees follow the teachings of their employer than birth control will not be ordered and there will not be a bill. I know there are many religious organizations and schools and hospitals that employ people of different faiths. What happens to their rights?  They are non-profits but they are making a profit. They are just not taxed on it. I realize God provides; however, God doesn’t provide cash to pay for the modern conveniences. God doesn’t pay for a child. They are amazing but they are also expensive and the responsibility of parenthood is one that should not be entered into until one is ready.

There are several religious groups that do not support the use of life support should that coverage not be mandatory? If you want to use the pill, use the pill. If you want to have sex and you want to be responsible, then use protection. If you want to have a baby then have a baby. The point is the religious organizations should not limit their employees right to health coverage that every other American would receive.

The tough pill for the church to swallow is women have the same rights as men now. We have the right to control whether we are ready to have babies or not. We have the right to make a decision to have sex and not make a baby. We have the right to control birth, it's our body.
