Walking Events
I love a 2 for 1, which is exactly what you get when participating in a Charity Walk. What better deal can you have than to improve your own health while raising awareness and often some money for a good cause? Want to make a high impact in the fight to end disease? Starting out with a low impact activity like walking can be the first step in helping you achieve your goal.
One of the top fund raising activities of numerous charitable organizations are walks. Getting behind your favorite charity's walk can have the added benefit of trimming your waistline, not to mention lowering your blood pressure and risk for disease. Walkers also tend to live longer and have better mental and spiritual health, as walking puts you in a good mood!
And speaking of a good mood, many walks feel more like a party. It’s a wonderful way to connect with friends and make new ones all around a good cause. Each year, my sister Kristy Tasca and her family participates in the MS Walk. Their team “Amy’s Angels” supports family member Amy Barbara a MS survivor. I look forward to walking with the group this year. I’m also excited about bringing my daughter Samia and participating in The Promise Walk which raises awareness about Preeclampsia a pregnancy related disease that I suffered from.
There’s another way to participate in a walk that doesn’t have to include a huge group. Just you and a few co-workers. The American Heart Association is encouraging employers and employees to Ditch their Desk and get out for 30 minutes on National Start Walking Day on April 6. This walk is all about getting you out to take those first steps to dedicated walking everyday.
